Recent comments from John Boyega have brought renewed attention to the future of Finn in the Star Wars franchise. During a recent event, the actor addressed whether a return could still be on the table. His remarks provide a clearer update on ongoing speculation surrounding the character’s place in upcoming projects.
John Boyega has spoken to Star Wars’ Dave Filoni
John Boyega portrayed Finn in The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker, where the character became an important part of the sequel trilogy.
Now, he has provided an update regarding his future in the Star Wars universe. He confirmed that he has already been in touch with Lucasfilm President and Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni. The actor made the revelation during MEGACON Orlando when he was asked about the possibility of returning as Finn.
Reportedly responding to a suggestion from the audience to reach out to Filoni, Boyega stated, “I actually have, actually,” (via ScreenRant). He did not further elaborate on the nature of those discussions. However, the comment has generated significant attention among fans. But this comes as a welcome update after what he said in November, 2025.
Last year, Boyega addressed the possibility of returning to Star Wars with Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron during Liverpool Comic Con. The actor stressed that the dynamic between Finn and Poe is best suited for a theatrical setting rather than streaming.
“Me and Oscar are very stubborn and we believe the bromance should only be on the big screen,” he said, suggesting that he is not perhaps interested in revisiting the role through a series or digital release. Going by this, there is a possibility that Boyega is in talks with Filoni for a return on the big screen, but nothing can be said with certainty yet.
The timing of the update is notable as Star Wars continues to evolve its strategy. After prioritizing series on Disney+, the franchise is now preparing to return to theaters with The Mandalorian & Grogu, the first feature film since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.
At present, no official announcement has been made regarding Finn’s return.
