Hong Kong’s weather forecaster issued another amber signal on Monday and warned that widespread heavy rain might hit the city as areas of thundery showers associated with an active southwest monsoon were developing.
The Hong Kong Observatory issued the second amber warning of the day at 10.25am, more than an hour after it cancelled the first one that was raised at 6.30am.
In a special warning at 10.10am, the Observatory called on members of the public to be on alert as the heavy showers were expected to affect the city “in the next couple of hours”.
It also said earlier that an active southwest monsoon and upper-air disturbances would “persistently” bring heavy showers and squally thunderstorms to the coast of Guangdong on Monday and Tuesday.
Parts of Kowloon and the New Territories East were hit the hardest in the morning, with more than 60mm of rainfall recorded, according to the forecaster. Rainfall of more than 30mm was observed across many other areas in the city.
