Five seasons of a Tyler Perry show will be added to Paramount+ next week. The psychological drama is a spin-off of Perry’s The Oval, following a woman who is forced into a dangerous religious cult and struggles to escape while protecting her daughter.
Tyler Perry’s Ruthless to be added to Paramount+ this month
Tyler Perry’s Ruthless Seasons 1-5 will stream on Paramount+ from Tuesday, April 7, according to the platform’s listing.
The series follows Ruth Truesdale, a young woman who is thrust into a dangerous, sex-obsessed cult called the Rakudushi. Under the influence of the cult, she kidnaps her daughter, Callie, to be part of the group. By following more orders, Ruth rises through the group’s hierarchy, earning the Elder position. But to cement her position, she has to undergo a disturbing initiation.
Following the initiation, Ruth struggles to come to terms with it and decides to escape along with her daughter and her friend, Tally. Meanwhile, outside the cult, the authorities are trying to expose the group. Soon, an FBI agent infiltrates Rakudushi.
Perry wrote and directed the first four seasons. However, Season 5 was written by different writers, while Armani Ortiz directed all 17 episodes. The series’ cast features Melissa L. Williams as Ruth, Matt Cedeño as The Highest, Lenny Thomas as Anthony, Yvonne Senat Jones as Tally, Baadja-Lyne Odums as Marva, and Blue Kimble as Andrew, among others.
Ruthless Season 1 premiered in March 2020 on BET+, a streaming platform that Perry owns and operates. The subsequent seasons were released annually, with Season 5 wrapping up in April 2025. Although the series has not officially ended, there is very little information about Season 6. The show has not been renewed or canceled at this point.
According to the show’s Rotten Tomatoes page, it appears to have struck a chord with its viewers, boasting an impressive 91% score over five seasons. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, it has a weighted average user score of 7.7.
