Ahmedabad: A 47-year-old trader from Chandkheda on Wednesday lodged a complaint with cybercrime police, stating that he was cheated of Rs 25 lakh by cyber fraudsters who lured him into a fake forex trading scheme through Telegram and WhatsApp.The complainant, who runs a wholesale solar electronics business, said he regularly uses social media platforms and invests in the share market through a registered brokerage.
On July 8, 2025, he was contacted on Telegram by a user identifying herself as “Divya Sharma”. The woman claimed to be a forex trading expert and promised high returns if the complainant allowed her to trade on his behalf. She demanded a 50% share of the profits. Over time, she gained the complainant’s confidence and persuaded him to start forex trading through a website named “Go Markets”. The complainant transferred money in multiple transactions between Aug 10 and Sep 16. When the complainant later attempted to withdraw profits, he was allegedly asked to pay additional charges and commissions. Suspecting fraud, he contacted the cybercrime helpline 1930 on Oct 11 . tnn
