The government of Hong Kong has picked a joint venture of Aecom and AtkinsRéalis to build the Hong Kong section of the Hong Kong–Shenzhen Western Rail Link.

The JV will design and build a 7.3km section on the railway, linking Hong Kong’s Hung Shui Kiu to the Qianhai special economic zone in Shenzhen, with a journey time of 15 minutes when completed.

The full 18.1km link will have a 10.8km Shenzhen section.

The aim of the link is to create a “one-hour living circle” in the Greater Bay Area.

Ian Chung, Aecom Asia’s chief executive, said: “Having worked extensively on key projects in the region, we are honored to collaborate with the Government on this vital cross-boundary link.

“By combining our technical excellence with a proven track record, we remain committed to achieving the highest standards for our clients.”
