South Korean police have initiated an investigation into a person who leaked flight reservation details of K-pop stars and other celebrities, including BTS, in exchange for financial gain.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Cyber Investigation Unit is investigating an employee working for an airline in Hong Kong, who sold the confidential boarding information of numerous celebrities to others.
The arrestee, in her 30s, was allegedly illegally accessing hundreds of flight details from 2023 to 2024.
She is believed to have used airline software to look up celebrity names and birthdates before obtaining private flight information, including seat numbers.
Authorities estimated that she sold over 1,000 sets of data, which helped her earn profits of over 10 million South Korean won. She was said to have purportedly decided on higher prices depending on the stars’ popularity.
As officials probe further into the case, they’re also considering the possibility of other individuals linked to the scheme of illegally selling top celebrity flight data.
