Three members of the Security Bureau’s designated task force traveled to Thailand on Tuesday afternoon to assist a 29-year-old male victim who was rescued on Sunday in returning to Hong Kong.
The victim’s family has expressed concerns that it may take up to a month for him to return to the city and is seeking help from the SAR government. Family members noted that the Myanmar government sent soldiers into “KK Park” to search for him under pressure from the Thai authorities.
It is reported that the male victim was rescued without a ransom and is currently at a Thai police station for investigation.
Following this, he will be transferred to a detention center in Bangkok for up to two weeks, after which, if all goes well, arrangements will be made for his flight back to Hong Kong.
Former Yau Tsim Mong district councilor Andy Yu Tak-po expressed the family’s shock regarding the expected length of the victim’s stay.
“We believe the SAR government has an important role at this time,” Yu said.
He suggested that “the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Bangkok can actively assist by negotiating with the Thai government to expedite the necessary procedures for the victim’s family, allowing him to return to Hong Kong as soon as possible.”
