Yu Jianhua, the head of China’s General Administration of Customs who was once one of Beijing’s top international trade negotiators, has died at the age of 63 due to sudden illness, according to a statement released by the government.
The one-line official notice didn’t provide further details on Yu’s illness and only mentioned that he passed away on Tuesday after all rescue measures failed. A local Chinese newspaper reported that Yu on Tuesday had held a meeting in Beijing with the leaders of northeastern Jilin province — Party Secretary Huang Qiang and Governor Hu Yuting — to discuss development promotion.
