Boys & Girls Club of Watertown Announces New Membership Structure | Local News

{KXLG – Watertown, SD} The Boys & Girls Club of Watertown has announced in a notice sent to parents changes to its membership fee structure for 2025, effective from the next enrollment period.

The increase would be the first increase in eight years for the club.

According to the notice, the fee increase is necessitated by several factors, including core operating costs, higher staff wages, increased costs for food services, facility upkeep, and essential supplies.

Boys and Girls Club of Watertown’s Executive Director Liz Brownell told KXLG News, “We decided to announce the changes months in advance, so parents and guardians have time to plan before the start of our summer 2025 programs when the new fees take effect.”

Director Brownell discusses affordability: “Our goal is to remain mission-driven with affordable fees for all, but our organization must also ensure fiscal stability. After thoughtful consideration, the Board of Directors has approved a membership fee increase in 2025.”

The updated membership fees and options are as follows:

  1. Year-Round Membership (May 2025 – May 2026): $125 (enroll by May 15)
  2. Summer Only Membership (May 2025 – August 2025): $100 (enroll by May 15)
  3. School Year Membership (August 2025 – May 2026): $50 (enroll by August 15)

The notice also states that children with a 2024 membership will not need to renew until they begin either the summer and/or fall programs. Enrollment for the 2025-2026 membership year will open on January 2nd, 2025.

KXLG News asked Director Brownell to share more about the increase, “A membership increase will help support consistent funding to provide quality mentors, engaging programs, safe programming and surroundings, and healthy meals and snacks, at the high caliber our community youth deserve.”

Director Brownell told KXLG News that scholarships will be available soon: “Scholarships will be available. More information regarding the scholarship application will be on the Club website in January. The guidelines for scholarships will be the same as those for the free and reduced school meal program.”

The Boys & Girls Club of Watertown remains committed to providing various valuable services and experiences for children and families in the community.

Director Brownell said, “We are deeply thankful for every dollar we receive from community partners, donors, and grantors: their support helps us uphold high standards and keep our membership fees affordable as core operating costs rise.”
