George and Amal Clooney reside in Brignoles, a town in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of southeastern France. The couple had to evacuate recently as their home is among the many regions in Europe affected by the ongoing wildfires spreading across France, Greece, Spain, and Italy.

The Clooneys announced their departure in a letter addressed to the mayor of Brignoles, Didier Brémond. “Dear Didier, At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment,” the letter read (via People).

“As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasise 2 things, first we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole…We love Brignoles and our friends who live there,” the family further stated.

According to the Associated Press, the wildfire in France has reached a size four times that of Paris. Meanwhile, CNN has reported that around 224,000 people have evacuated from the Gironde region of France. Reportedly, almost 3,000 evacuated from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.

Clooney had previously opened up about raising their kids in Europe, away from the Hollywood glam. In an October 2025 interview with Esquire, the actor recalled spending his childhood on a farm.

“A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid, I hated the whole idea of it,” the actor shared. “But now, for them, it’s like—they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.”

Clooney said that he was “worried about raising our kids in L.A., in the culture of Hollywood.” The actor added, “I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life. France — they kind of don’t give a s— about fame. I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi.”
