Over 44,000 Nigerians flew Emirates in 4 months as China, UK, UAE ranked top destinations

As Nigerians plan their summer holidays, new travel data from Emirates offers a glimpse into where they travelled last year—and highlights the destinations likely to attract even more visitors in 2026.

Between 1 May and 31 August 2025, more than 44,000 passengers flew from Nigeria on Emirates, underscoring the country’s growing appetite for international travel and its increasing connectivity to major global destinations.

Favourite destinations for travellers from Nigeria

China emerged as the most visited destination among Nigerian travellers during the period, welcoming 11,530 passengers.

Guangzhou alone accounted for nearly 80 percent of all travel to mainland China, reflecting the city’s enduring importance as a commercial hub for Nigerian entrepreneurs, importers and business travellers.

Beyond Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen also attracted significant numbers of Nigerian visitors, demonstrating the breadth of commercial and business ties between the two countries.

The United States continued to rank among Nigerians’ preferred long-haul destinations, with 2,500 passengers travelling through Emirates’ network to its 11 U.S. gateways.

New York (JFK) remained the leading American destination, accounting for almost one-third of U.S.-bound travellers. Houston, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Chicago and Boston also featured prominently, reflecting a blend of business travel, family visits, education and tourism.

The United Kingdom also recorded robust demand, welcoming over 5,850 passengers from Nigeria during the summer travel season. London Heathrow remained the busiest gateway, receiving 2,500+ passengers—more than 43 percent of all UK-bound travellers. Manchester also continued to attract strong traffic, serving both business travellers and the large Nigerian diaspora across Britain.

Dubai continues to shine as one of the most popular destinations on the Emirates network, attracting 6,370+ travellers from Nigeria. Whether travelling for shopping, leisure, family holidays or business, the city continues to strengthen its reputation as a year-round destination and an ideal gateway to hundreds of onward connections across the Emirates network.

Beyond the top destinations, Nigerian travellers venture farther afield through Emirates’ extensive global network.

Other popular destinations included Delhi, Mumbai, Medina, Sydney, Christchurch, Mauritius, Seychelles and numerous cities across Europe. Together, these travel patterns reflect a diverse mix of business, education, tourism, religious pilgrimage and family reunions.

Solo Travel Continues to Rise

One of the standout trends from Emirates’ passenger data is the growing popularity of independent travel. More than 61 percent of Nigerian passengers travelled alone during the summer period, making solo travellers the largest travel segment.

Families represented 17 percent of passengers, while travellers travelled as couples—a reflection of changing travel habits and increasing confidence among Nigerians exploring the world independently.

Beyond an extensive global network, Emirates continues to enhance the travel experience with regionally inspired cuisine, award-winning hospitality and more than 6,500 channels of entertainment on its acclaimed ice inflight entertainment system.

Travellers connecting through Dubai can also experience Emirates’ Premium Economy on selected A380, A350 and Boeing 777 aircraft operating to destinations including the United States, the United Kingdom and China.

The airline’s newest cabin features spacious cream leather seats with generous recline, elevated dining served on Royal Doulton china, and a quieter, more comfortable travel experience.

For those seeking the ultimate luxury, Emirates’ First Class Private Suites on selected A380 aircraft offer exceptional privacy, gourmet dining, an exclusive onboard lounge and the airline’s signature Shower Spa.

Looking Ahead

As international travel continues to gather momentum, the latest passenger data highlights Nigeria’s growing importance within Emirates’ African network. Whether travelling for business, education, family connections, faith or leisure, Nigerian travellers are embracing more destinations than ever before.

With seamless connections through Dubai to hundreds of cities worldwide, Emirates continues to open new possibilities for Nigerians looking to explore the world in Summer 2026.
