YouTube Premium and Peacock have struck a massive streaming deal, but it comes with a notable twist. Peacock is a fast-growing streaming service from NBCUniversal, a subsidiary of Comcast that currently boasts nearly 50 million subscribers.
As part of the landmark agreement between YouTube and NBCUniversal, U.S. YouTube Premium subscribers will soon gain full access to Peacock Premium.
What the YouTube-Peacock bundle means for streaming viewers
According to Deadline, the streaming deal will come into effect by early 2027. Speaking more of the deal, YouTube Premium subscribers will get to access the ad-supported Peacock Premium tier at no additional cost. Currently, the monthly plan for YouTube Premium costs $15.99 in the U.S.
As for the standalone Peacock Premium monthly plan, it currently costs $10.99, while the ad-free Peacock Premium Plus monthly plan is available for $16.99.
While the news is great for fans who have always wanted to get into Peacock’s library of popular shows, there’s still a catch with this entire deal. Although it’s been revealed that there will be “no change to YouTube Premium’s pricing tied to the launch of the partnership,” exact financial details and future subscription prices have yet to be finalized.
It will be interesting to see if the YouTube Premium monthly plan itself will have a price hike or not.
As for the streaming deal announcement, it comes after NBCUniversal’s parent company, Comcast, confirmed that the Peacock streaming service became profitable after six years of launch.
The new deal is likely to benefit the Peacock streaming platform, thanks to YouTube Premium’s large 125 million-plus subscriber base, not just in the U.S. but outside of it. While Peacock is not available in other regions internationally, YouTube Premium subscribers will be able to access its content via other alternate streaming services, namely Universal+ and Hayu in certain markets.
The landmark partnership further strengthens YouTube’s position as a major destination for professional television, movies, and live sports.
