China evacuates over 340,000 as Typhoon Noul approaches southern coast
Amman, July 25 (Petra) — Chinese authorities have evacuated more
than 340,000 people and suspended businesses and rail services across
southern China as Typhoon Noul approaches, bringing heavy rainfall
and powerful winds.
The typhoon is expected to make landfall along the coastal areas
stretching from Shenzhen to Haifeng in Guangdong province on Sunday
morning, state news agency Xinhua reported. Chinese meteorological
authorities issued a red alert the highest in their warning system
forecasting torrential rain across parts of Guangdong and neighboring
Hunan, Fujian, and Jiangxi provinces.
In Guangdong, 12 cities including Guangzhou, Dongguan, and Shantou
have fully or partially suspended classes, work, production, business
activities, and public transport.
Hong Kong authorities raised the city’s third-highest typhoon signal
on Saturday evening and opened 28 temporary shelters across the
territory.
Hong Kong Airport Authority reported that at least 49 flights were
canceled and 238 delayed, warning that operations would likely face
widespread disruption on Sunday. Shenzhen Bao’an International
Airport in Guangdong also announced that airlines would adjust flight
schedules between Sunday morning and noon depending on weather
conditions.
