TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) on Friday rejected a statement by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul that his government’s endorsement of China’s false claims over Taiwan would not impact relations.
At the end of an official visit to Beijing, a joint statement by Thailand and China approved the latter’s “one country, two systems” policy. Anutin later told reporters the statement would not change relations between Thailand and Taiwan, according to the Bangkok Post.
Speaking to reporters in Taipei Friday, Lin said it would have an effect, per CNA. Thailand should value relations with Taiwan and take remedial action for its unreasonable pandering to China, the foreign minister said.
Otherwise, the joint statement by Thailand and China would influence Taiwanese investment in Thailand and contacts between the two countries, Lin added.
The exchanges came as a Thai movie festival rejected pressure from China to remove the logo of Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture from promotional materials. The festival planned to show more than 12 films and documentaries from Taiwan.
