President Donald Trump will announce Thursday almost 200 more signers of his voluntary pledge aimed at preventing data centers from increasing households’ electricity bills.
Energy experts have questioned whether Trump’s pledge will do much to shield consumers from taking a hit from the proliferation of data centers. And environmentalists and other critics argue its voluntary nature means it’s more of a photo-op designed to distract from soaring fuel prices caused by the Iran war.
Thursday’s signing will significantly expand the scope of Trump’s pledge.
In addition to utilities and more artificial intelligence companies, almost every Republican governor is signing the Ratepayer Protection Pledge as well, according to USA Today and confirmed by the White House. POLITICO reported earlier this month that several GOP governors had signed the pledge.
