It may be nestled in the quiet village of Bulkington but there is a big noise being made about The Weavers Arms.
It has been run by the same family for decades and they pride ‘The Weavers’ on being a traditional English pub.
So much so that Tom Wiberley, who runs the pub, says that people travel from ‘far and wide’ to sample their pints of draught Bass.

“We’ve got a really good reputation for our Bass., we’ve customers who travel far and wide for it,” he explained.
“We are very old school, we don’t do food, we just do good beer, have good customers and a good traditional atmosphere.”

It is not just loved by locals and ale drinkers, it has been named as one of The Telegraph’s 650 best pubs in the UK 2026.
“The first thing I knew about it was one of the photographers came in from The Telegraph,” he explained.
“This man walked in with a camera around his neck and I said hello to him and he introduced himself and said we (the pub) were going to be featured, and asked if he could take some photos.
“So I’m guessing the reporter for The Telegraph had been in, you know, weeks prior and then obviously decided that we were going to be featured. So yeah, we were pretty impressed with that.”
They saw the article on Friday morning: “We were doing the maths on it and there’s 45,000 pubs in the UK, so to be one of 650 featured, I’d say, is pretty good going,” he added.

It was originally ran by Tom’s grandparents Peter and Cynthia Gilbert and as teenager he worked as a glass collector.
“We have not long had our 35th anniversary here,” he explained.
“I’ve always been working here, helping out since I was about 15 over the weekends. As I have got older, I took on more of a role and now I run it with my uncle.
“It’s got its quirks but we have got a really loyal base of, of customers there then. We have got the customers who will be in after work every day, and those from the the minute we open, and they all have friendly banter.
“We have also got a darts team., a domino team and a crib team in the week and at the weekend we get families in and, with weather like we have had, in the garden.
“We’re lucky, I suppose, in a way compared to others. We have got great regulars and that’s one of the things that makes it. so good here.”

Now, aged 31, he is proudly keeping the family legacy going at ‘The Weavers’.
He is the first to admit that drinking habits have changed but The Weavers remains a mainstay for its loyal customers.
“We seem to be stuck in the past, in the nicest way, like the good old days, and people like it,” he said.
