Teyana Taylor’s Get Lite Release Date Delayed, New R-Rated Comedy Replaces It

Paramount just shook up its 2027 calendar, and one director’s debut is paying the price.
A new R-rated comedy claims a spring release date, pushing Teyana Taylor’s dance film into late summer.

Paramount swaps Teyana Taylor’s directorial debut date for new R-Rated comedy

Paramount Primal has picked up R-rated comedy Boys for Life and set an April 9, 2027 theatrical release, Deadline reports. The studio’s new genre label acquired the project after a competitive bidding war. Tyler Falbo directs and produces the film, which he co-wrote with Max Barrett. Cameras are already rolling ahead of its spring release date.

Falbo gained traction through indie shorts and Almost Friday TV sketches on YouTube. He built a reputation for dark, irreverent humor with twist-driven storytelling. Additionally, he sold the original series Last Night Was a Movie to FX. Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda are showrunning that show. Meanwhile, Galen Core will produce alongside Falbo on Boys for Life. Core’s credits include A24’s Club Kid and Mubi’s Lurker.

Former BoulderLight duo J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules spearhead Paramount Primal. The label focuses on smartly budgeted titles across horror, comedy, action and sci-fi. Recently, it secured the original Nightmare on Elm Street screenplay from the Wes Craven estate. A remake is now in development at the label.

As a result, Teyana Taylor’s feature directorial debut Get Lite shifts on the schedule. The dance film moves from April 9, 2027 to Aug. 20, 2027. Its spirit lends itself better to a summer release window. Storm Reid stars as a talented but sheltered dance student. The character finds inspiration, love and family in New York City’s subways.

Kenya Barris, Anni Weisband, Storm Reid and Robyn Simpson produce Get Lite. Bill Karesh, Courtney “Coco” Gilbert and Oscar nominee Taylor also serve as producers. Taylor earned her Academy Award nomination for One Battle After Another.
