France Eliminates Paraguay, Final Match Stats, Highlights & Updated World Cup 2026 Bracket

France survived an upset scare from Paraguay to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

A Kylian Mbappe 70th-minute penalty was the difference between Les Bleus and La Albirroja in Philadelphia.

Kylian Mbappe scored his 19th goal in 19 World Cup games from the spot in the 70th minute.

Mbappe hesitated and then finished into the right side of the net past Paraguay goalkeeper Oscar Gill.

Desire Doue earned the penalty after he was fouled by Diego Gomez in the penalty area.

Paraguay was organized in defense once again, just like it was in the round of 32 against Germany, but the penalty concession was its undoing.

The South American side did go out with a bang, though, as Gill made a tremendous double save on Mbappe in second-half stoppage time.

France is now on to the quarterfinals, where it plays Morocco at Gillette Stadium on July 9.
