Elliot Page’s The Odyssey Role Revealed & It’s Not Achilles

Elliot Page‘s role in The Odyssey has finally been revealed after months of speculation. Many had previously speculated that the actor would play Achilles. However, a new listing suggests he’ll be portraying a different character.

Elliot Page to play Sinon, not Achilles, in The Odyssey movie

According to the listing for The Odyssey on Into Film, Elliot Page is playing Sinon, a Greek warrior during the Trojan War.

This comes after months of speculation that The Umbrella Academy star would play Achilles, one of the greatest warriors of the Trojan War. Page will instead portray Sinon, the Greek soldier who played an important role in the fall of Troy. However, it will likely be a small role as Sinon does not appear prominently in Homer’s Odyssey.

According to Virgil’s Aeneid, Sinon was Odysseus’ cousin. After the Greeks built the famous Trojan Horse, they pretended to sail away. Sinon stayed behind and allowed himself to be captured. Claiming he had been abandoned by his own people, he gained the Trojans’ trust. He falsely told them the horse was a sacred offering to Athena that would protect Troy if brought within its walls. The Trojans believed him. This allowed the hidden Greek soldiers inside the horse to come out at night and sack the city.

The Odyssey also stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron, among others. It will debut in theaters on July 17. Damon plays Odysseus, with Holland portraying his son, Telemachus, and Hathaway as his wife, Penelope. Pattinson takes on the role of Antinous, while Nyong’o brings to life two characters: Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, Helen’s sister.

Christopher Nolan wrote the screenplay and directed the film. Furthermore, the director linked up with composer Ludwig Göransson for a second time after they previously worked together on Oppenheimer.
