Academy Award winner Robert De Niro has opened up about his decades-long creative partnership with acclaimed director Martin Scorsese. The long-time collaborators have worked on a total of eleven movies, including 1973’s Mean Streets, 1976’s Taxi Driver, 1980’s Raging Bull, 1982’s The King of Comedy, 1990’s Goodfellas, 2019’s The Irishman, and 2023’s Killers of the Flower Moon.

During a recent interview with GQ, De Niro had the chance to briefly talk about his partnership with Scorsese. The award-winning actor confirmed that he’s hoping to do at least one more movie with the 83-year-old filmmaker in the future. Their most recent collaboration was the acclaimed 2023 movie Killers of the Flower Moon, which garnered ten Oscar nominations, including Best Director and Best Supporting Actor. At the moment, there is no reunion project in the works for De Niro and Scorsese.
“We did movies that Marty and I were fortunate to do what we wanted to do, and that’s it. I know I was fortunate to be able to do 10 movies with him, De Niro shared. “And maybe we’ll do more, or at least another one. Who knows?”
Last year, De Niro starred in Barry Levinson’s crime drama film The Alto Knights, which had a disappointing performance at the box office. It only grossed around $9 million worldwide against a reported budget of $45-50 million. He will next be seen in another crime thriller movie, The Whisper Man, which will feature De Niro playing a retired police detective helping his son search for his abducted grandchild. The Netflix film will debut on August 28. De Niro is also set to reprise his iconic role in the upcoming comedy movie Focker-in-Law, with Ben Stiller and Ariana Grande.
Meanwhile, Scorsese is currently filming his latest feature directorial project, What Happens at Night, which reunites him with Leonardo DiCaprio. The upcoming horror movie will also be led by Jennifer Lawrence and Mads Mikkelsen. Moviegoers will also get to see Scorsese act alongside Oscar Isaac in the upcoming drama film In the Hand of Dante, which will be released next month.
