2026 UEFA Champions League final – which Olympic medallists are playing?
Brazil became the first consecutive Olympic men’s football champions in 13 years at Tokyo. Five years on from that gold medal match, two players from each of Brazil and Spain will take to the pitch in the 2026 Champions League final.
Alongside the two Gabriel’s are Arsenal’s midfield maestros, Mikel Merino and Martín Zubimendi. They guided Spain to the Olympic silver medal and added a prestigious title of the same material this month: Arsenal’s first English Premier League trophy in 22 years.
Now, the Gunners are targeting a first-ever Champions League title in their second final, having been beaten in Paris back in 2006. Can Mikel Arteta’s men cap off a magnificent season with a second, even more elusive piece of silverware?
For opponents PSG, it has been another trophy-laden season thanks to a 12th French Ligue 1 title in the last 14 years. Their Olympic pedigree stretches to the dugout in manager Luis Enrique, a gold medallist at Barcelona 1992.
Back on the pitch, the French champions had plenty of representation on the podium at Paris 2024, where the final was held at PSG’s home ground, Le Parc des Princes.
Olympic silver medallist Désiré Doué has enjoyed another spectacular season in the French capital and will be heading from Budapest to North America for his World Cup debut next month.
Teammate Achraf Hakimi is a bronze medallist with Morocco, while Lee Kang-in played at Tokyo for the Republic of Korea. With Olympic stars all around, the Champions League final is sure to be a showdown to remember.
