Hojlund: ‘Feels weird’ to say goodbye to Manchester United
Hojlund scored in the final moments of Napoli’s 3-0 victory over Pisa in Serie A on Sunday afternoon: The game that confirmed that the Partenopei will be playing Champions League football next season.
As Napoli have now secured their Champions League status, the obligation to buy clause in Hojlund’s contract has now been triggered, which means that he is no longer affiliated to Manchester United.
Hojlund joined Napoli on loan with a potential obligation to buy from United last summer. Antonio Conte’s side agreed to pay a €6m loan fee and a potential €44m fee to make the move permanent.

Hojlund himself has confirmed that the clause has been triggered, and has taken an opportunity to say his final farewells to the Manchester United fans on social media.
“This goal felt symbolic because it means two things. We now secured Champions League with Napoli, which means because of my contract I’m now officially a Napoli player and I’m saying goodbye to Manchester United. That feels weird, because for the past year I already feel like a Napoli player,” Hojlund wrote on a post on Instagram.

He continued: “The way you fans supported me, made me feel like home and let me find my confidence again is something I’m so grateful for.
“To say goodbye to Manchester United is something that kinda feels emotional too. My childhood dream came true by playing at Old Trafford in a red jersey. So the goal today symbolizes a new confident start, in which I will give everything for the time ahead to Napoli, and a thank you to all the fans, players and staff of Manchester United who made the dream I had as a kid come true. It’s time for new dreams, so let’s chase them.”
Hojlund has scored 11 goals and has provided six assists from 32 Serie A appearances this term. He also netted three times from seven outings in the Champions League and once in the Supercoppa Italiana.
