President Donald Trump said Monday that Iran’s response to U.S. proposals to end the war was unacceptable.

Reports indicate Tehran sent its reply through Pakistan, which has acted as mediator between the two sides.

Iranian media said the government was demanding an immediate halt to the fighting and guarantees against further U.S. or Israeli attacks.

Washington’s terms reportedly included reopening the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping and suspending Iran’s nuclear enrichment program.

A cease‑fire announced in early April to allow peace talks has largely held, though sporadic clashes continue.

Oil prices have climbed as the key Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed since the war began Feb. 28, disrupting global energy supplies.

The blockade has rippled far beyond the region.

In Somalia, nearly one in three people now face acute hunger, according to the U.N. World Food Programme.

About two million are “one step from famine,” said Matthew Hollingworth, the agency’s country director.
