Jamal Musiala a doubt for Germany’s March international matches

Jamal Musiala is currently sidelined at Bayern Munich due to a “pain reaction” in the ankle he injured last summer at the Club World Cup. He has been ruled out of the Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Atalanta BC, and his participation against Union Berlin on Saturday is also in doubt.

Naturally, the question arises as to whether he will be able to play for his country in the upcoming international break, which starts next week. According to Sky (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), a decision regarding Musiala’s callup has not yet been made at the time of writing. However, considering national coach Julian Nagelsmann will announce his squad on Thursday, it can be cautiously assumed that Musiala will be left out of the squad.

This will undoubtedly put a wrench into Nagelsmann’s plans, as Musiala was supposed to be one of Germany’s main players at the upcoming World Cup. With Musiala out of commission, Nagelsmann will be unable to test out his prime lineup for the World Cup in the March friendlies. Possible replacements could be Musiala’s Bayern teammate Serge Gnabry, VfB Stuttgart’s Jamie Leweling, Galatasaray’s Leroy Sané, or maybe even Bayern starlet Lennart Karl, although the latter seems a bit of a stretch at the moment.

Germany will play Switzerland in Basel on Friday before returning home and playing Ghana in Stuttgart three days later.
