MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Two Mobile women have been arrested and charged with an assault that injured a woman, according to the Mobile Police Department.

According to an MPD news release, officers were called to the 2700 block of Bank Avenue Saturday shortly before 5:30 p.m. in response to a reported assault.

When officers arrived, they found a woman with injuries she had allegedly gotten a short time earlier. She was taken to a local hospital by personal vehicle for treatment.

Officers were told the injured woman had been hurt during a physical altercation with two other women known to her, one of whom allegedly picked up the woman’s handgun and hit her in the head with it.
Shawanda Smith, 39, and Mi’kiyia Whitfield, 20, were arrested and charged with robbery and assault.

They were taken to Metro Jail, where they are both awaiting bond hearings.
