This winter, it seems like the atmosphere just wants to snow in Connecticut. In addition to the two major snowstorms this winter, several nuisance events brought minor snow accumulation to the state, adding to our seasonal totals.
How much snow has Connecticut seen this winter?
Typically, quite a range of snow totals can emerge during a winter season across Connecticut, and this winter has been no exception. Since October 1, most of the state is in the 45- to 65-inch range for seasonal snow totals, making this an above-normal winter of snowfall, but nowhere near record-breaking. The winter of 1995-96 will be tough to dethrone after an incredible 114.6 inches of snow fell in the Hartford area, and 75.7 inches in Bridgeport.
The Hartford area has picked up 52.3 inches of snow this winter, 12 inches more than normal for this point in the season.
Data from the National Operational Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center (NOHRSC) shows that much of Connecticut has picked up between 45 and 65 inches of snowfall this season. (WeatherBELL)
Monday’s blizzard helped push Bridgeport’s snow totals this season to 55.9 inches, nearly 31 inches above the normal pace. The city would still need another 19.8 inches of snow just to tie that record from 1995-96, which is very unlikely given forecast model trends for the next few weeks.
