The Sopranos star Steve Schirripa opened up about a possible “leak” on the sets of the hit series. The actor, who played Bobby Bacala on the long-running show, revealed that someone was “selling information” from the show, but the creators of the series could never pinpoint who this person was.
Steve Schirripa says there was a ‘leak’ on the set of The Sopranos
Steve Schirripa, who worked in 53 episodes of The Sopranos, sat down for an interview alongside fellow castmate Michael Imperioli, who played Christopher Moltisanti. The pair went over multiple things on the famous show.
Schirripa even delved into a suspected “leak” on the secretive sets of the show, which was one of the first to boast an intense fandom, a culture that carried on to later shows like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones.
“There was a leak on set because somebody was selling information,” the 68-year-old actor revealed during the interview with The Independent. “We had some suspects,” he added, explaining how the creative team never found out who the leak was.
Imperioli added to this, saying that he would “never say anything bad about anybody… I mean, I could, but I won’t. I’m sure people say bad things about me — I wouldn’t be surprised — but we tried to keep it above the belt. No low blows. I find it not classy.”
Since its premiere in 1999, The Sopranos has seen an unprecedented fandom for any television series. This was also often a cause for concern. For instance, the first four episodes of the series’ fourth and highest-rated season were leaked on the internet, spoiling crucial plot details. It also led to the invention of defense mechanisms to curb such leaks.
Even now, The Sopranos remains one of the most highly-regarded television shows ever made. It is also considered a trailblazer for the Golden Age of Television.
