Rain continues overnight, temperatures return to winter

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Showers and storms continue overnight, followed by a return to wintry temperatures.

Saturday was another warm and breezy day before showers and storms moved in. Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport recorded a new daily record high of 86°, breaking the old record of 84° set back in 2018.

Winds gusted over 30 mph at times, even before showers and storms arrived. A weakening cluster of showers and a few storms moved into the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry by the afternoon. They lost their punch but still brought wind gusts of 35-40 mph for some areas.

A couple more rounds of showers and perhaps a rumble of thunder or two will move through the area Saturday night into Sunday morning, all in advance of a cold front. The final round of light passing showers will move out of the area shortly after sunrise.

Skies clear out, and the remainder of Sunday will be cooler and windy at times. Winds out of the northwest will be gusting over 30 mph at times. That, coupled with drier air working in, will lead to a high fire danger, so do not burn outdoors either Sunday or Monday.

A return to a wintry feel takes hold by Sunday night into Monday morning. Breezy conditions continue, making lows around freezing feel like the teens to 20s. Be sure to bundle up on Monday due to this and highs only making it into the 40s.

Winds back off some Monday night into Tuesday morning, leading to an even colder one with lows in the 20s. This will likely bring a hard freeze to most areas along and west of I-95, so protect the Four P’s, including being mindful of any early-blooming plants.

Temperatures gradually moderate through the week, with one light freeze possible Wednesday morning followed by highs back in the 60s and 70s. A storm system swings through the region Thursday into Friday, bringing showers.
