Controversial Apple TV Show Sets Release Date After Plagiarism Issue

Apple TV has finally shared the official trailer and release date for The Hunt, its upcoming French-language thriller drama starring award-winning actress Mélanie Laurent (Don’t Worry, I’m Fine).

This comes after the show was accused of plagiarism, which led the streamer to delay its December release. Per Deadline, the series’ French production company, Gaumont, launched an investigation into the claims, revealing that there were indeed significant similarities between the show and Douglas Fairbairn’s 1973 novel Shoot. Because of this, the novel and Harvey Hart’s 1976 film adaptation are now part of the show’s official credits, following Gaumont’s successful negotiations with the owners of the book and film’s rights.

When is the release date for The Hunt?

The Hunt is scheduled to start streaming on March 4, 2026, exclusively on Apple TV. It will then be followed by one new episode every Wednesday through April 1. The show also stars Benoît Magimel, Damien Bonnard, Manuel Guillot, Cédric Appietto, Frédéric Maranber, Angélyna Mignot, Paul Beaurepaire, Yann Goven, Sarah Pachoud, and Patrick de Vallette.

The gripping thriller series is directed by Cédric Anger and Guillaume Renusson, based on the novel Shoot by Douglas Fairbairn, which was first adapted into a feature film of the same name directed by Harvey Hart from a screenplay by Richard Berg. Executive producers are Sidonie Dumas, Isabelle Degeorges, Clémentine Vaudaux, and Alexis Barqueiro for Gaumont.

“In the show, Franck and his longtime friends enjoy spending their weekends hunting together, but one Sunday, they come across another group of hunters who start targeting them without explanation. When one of their party is shot, Franck’s friends strike back, sending an attacker to the ground,” reads the synopsis. “Barely managing to escape, the four friends keep the event a secret. Franck tries to go back to his life as usual alongside his wife Krystel, but in the next few days, he starts to feel like he and his friends are being watched, or worse, tracked by hunters who are now hell-bent on revenge.”
