Noblesville man accused of 2023 Fishers shooting arrested by FBI agents in Egypt

Police say Jacfar Abdi allegedly fled the United States after he shot a man during an armed robbery at a Fishers apartment complex in November 2023.

FISHERS, Ind. — A Noblesville man accused of shooting another man in Fishers in 2023 was captured and arrested by FBI agents in January on the other side of the world.

According to a release from the Fishers Police Department, Jacfar Abdi, of Noblesville, was arrested by FBI agents in Cairo, Egypt, on Jan. 27 and extradited back to the United States. Abdi is accused of shooting a man at The District at Saxony Apartments, near East 131st Street and Pennington Road, in November 2023.

Police say on Nov. 19, 2023, officers were called to a local hospital on a report that a shooting victim was receiving treatment for a gunshot wound. Officers eventually learned that the shooting occurred on Rhineland Pass, a road on the grounds of the apartment complex.

Investigators later determined two vehicles and “multiple” people were involved in an incident in that area around 4 p.m. earlier that day. Police say witness interviews and video evidence helped investigators learn Abdi allegedly drove to the location, entered the victim’s vehicle and then shot the victim during an armed robbery.

Abdi then allegedly got back into his car, which was occupied by four other people, and fled the area.

Once investigators identified Abdi as the prime suspect, they learned he had already fled the United States. A Fishers police detective assigned to the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force began a fugitive investigation that eventually discovered Abdi was in Cairo, Egypt.

With help from the FBI Legal Attaché Cairo and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana, Abdi was arrested in Cairo and held pending extradition. On Jan. 27, 2026, Abdi was extradited to Indiana, where he was taken into custody by the Fishers Police Department.

“This arrest and extradition demonstrate the FBI’s relentless commitment to pursuing violent offenders, no matter where they flee,” FBI Indianapolis special agent in charge Timothy J. O’Malley said. “Through close coordination with our partners at the Fishers Police Department, FBI Legal Attaché Cairo, and our international law enforcement counterparts, we were able to locate Abdi overseas and bring him back to the United States to face justice.”

The Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office filed formal charges against Abdi on Jan. 22. Abdi is charged with the following felonies:

  • Attempted murder
  • Robbery resulting in bodily injury
  • Armed robbery
  • Aggravated battery
  • Theft of a firearm
  • Criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon
  • Pointing a firearm at another person

“The Fishers Police Department is relentless in the pursuit of those who choose to commit violent acts within our city,” Fishers police chief Ed Gebhart said. “The FPD detective assigned to the FBI VCTF worked tirelessly and utilized every tool available to locate this violent felon and get justice for the victim. We are incredibly proud of our partnership with the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force and all of the agencies involved in it, who are dedicated to the safety of our communities.”

Online court records show Abdi has a pretrial conference scheduled for March 25 at 9:15 a.m. with a jury trial tentatively scheduled for June 8 at 9 a.m.
