Joe Rogan‘s Comedy Mothership venue has been criticized for its comedian performers’ alleged repeated use of a homophobic slur.
The Comedy Mothership has been a core reason behind the surge of popularity the Austin, Texas’ comedy scene has experienced. After Joe Rogan moved to the state capital in 2020, many of his comedian friends followed suit, with Austin becoming a hub for performers veering into edgier material.
The Mothership has been a central part of this transformation, though the venue is not without its critics. A popular Austin podcaster how now described how he recently went to a show at the venue, and was surprised at how many performers used a homophobic slur in their sets.

Korey Coleman, film critic and host of the Double Toasted podcast, said that he had recently attended a show at the Mothership and many of the comedians were using the word “f****t” in their sets.
“I notice there’s a trend with comedians right now at the Comedy Mothership,” Coleman said. “I notice the thing that’s common now, that’s almost trendy with these comedians. There were about three or four of them, man they love dropping the word f****t, man.”
“I’m not a sensitive person, if you can make it funny and more importantly if you can make it clever,” he continued, “but some people were saying that word just to say it. There were about three or four of them, and they were just throwing it in to get a reaction.”
Coleman then impersonated the comedians, saying: “I’m in the Comedy Mothership, daddy Rogan said I could do it.”
