New report claims Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested
Los Angeles police confirmed that they arrested Kiefer Sutherland early Monday, January 12, 2026, after he allegedly got into an altercation with a rideshare driver in Hollywood. LAPD officers responded to a radio call about an assault near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue at approximately 12:15 a.m.
LAPD Officer Kevin Terzes stated, “The investigation determined that the suspect, later identified as Kiefer Sutherland, entered a rideshare vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim), and made criminal threats toward the victim” (via NBC News). Police confirmed that neither Sutherland nor the driver sustained injuries requiring medical attention.
Police arrested Sutherland, 59, on suspicion of felony criminal threats and booked him into jail shortly after 4 a.m., according to Los Angeles County jail records. He posted $50,000 bond and secured his release approximately seven hours later. The court scheduled his initial appearance for February 2, 2026. NBC Los Angeles was the first to report the arrest.
Sutherland gained recognition for his roles in the television series 24 and Designated Survivor. He recently finished filming the action thriller Father Joe, co-starring Al Pacino and Ever Anderson. Luc Besson wrote and produced the film, and Barthélémy Grossmann directed it.
