More than 100 residents were seen outside the betting shop on Stanley Street, widely known for selling first-prize-winning Mark Six tickets, with the queue stretching beyond one end of the street on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the Mark Six New Year Snowball draw on Saturday could see one ticket holder taking home a prize of HK$100 million.
As of 4.30pm, the turnover for the New Year Snowball reached nearly HK$172 million.
“I have won HK$640 from this branch before, so I have some confidence that I will win something,” said 34-year-old Kelly Ng, who bought four lottery tickets with her 65-year-old mother, surnamed Yu.
Asked if they had any winning strategies, Yu said they only bought numbers that were randomly generated.
“It has to be a ticket with a randomly generated number. You cannot pick the numbers. It will be me if it is meant to be,” she said.
