Readers will now be able to vote for their ‘Best Coffee Shop 2025’ by picking up copies of The Press newspaper between November 24 and December 6, with the winner set to be announced shortly after that.
Each copy of The Press in the coming days will feature a short profile on each café and why it thinks it deserves to be voted number one.
Owned by Steve and Tracey Dyson, Spring Espresso has been part of the York coffee scene for more than ten years with other York coffee shops citing the café as one of their inspirations.

Whilst originally operating as a mobile coffee business, the duo first opened the doors on their first brick-and-mortar café in Fossgate on Tracey’s Birthday, November 6, 2011, and have continued to grow since then – expanding to a second shop in Lendal in 2016 and taking over a second unit next to their original shop in 2023.
Throughout this time, the shop focused on its coffee offering and went from strength to strength – with Steve competing in the United Kingdom Barista Championship for three years in a row before joining the judging panel.

The café itself was also commended with national publications naming it amongst the best coffee shops in the UK and Tripadvisor awarding it with a best of the best award.
The café, which uses Small Batch Goldstone Blend in all its coffee, offers tea, matcha, and a range of different coffees with the most popular options being a latte and flat white.
They also offer brunch options – from eggs benedict and French toast to a fry up – alongside cakes, with popular options including flapjacks and the lemon crumb cake.

Steve attributes the shop’s success into the care that they take in all that they do – resulting in a range of top-quality drinks.
He said: “We have a lot of regulars, and we put care into the things we do. Coffee is all about the insignificant things that when done right add up to something quite special!”
