T-Mobile Visa Card Brings Back $5 AutoPay Discount for Credit Card Users

Remember when T-Mobile killed the AutoPay discount for credit card users back in 2023? They just brought it back, but there’s a catch. You’ll need their new branded card to get it.

T-Mobile recently launched the T-Mobile Visa card in partnership with Capital One. Its main selling point is a $5 monthly AutoPay discount on up to eight lines. In other words, T-Mobile took away a perk that worked with any credit card, then created their own card to give it back. Classic carrier move.

The T-Mobile Visa card offers 2% back in T-Mobile Rewards on every purchase anywhere Visa is accepted. You’ll get 5% back when buying phones, devices, or accessories directly from T-Mobile. The card has no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees, which is standard for most decent rewards cards these days.

What Else You Get

There are some travel perks thrown in. You can get up to 50% off select hotels and up to 45% off rental cars through T-Mobile’s travel portal. There’s also a limited-time offer for 25 cents off per gallon at Shell stations on Tuesdays through December 23. Not bad if you’re already filling up anyway.

The card is only available to T-Mobile postpaid customers with at least one active line. You can apply online through T-Mobile’s website, the T-Life app, or in-store starting November 10.

Here’s the thing though. The rewards can only be redeemed toward T-Mobile phones, accessories, or your monthly bill. So while T-Mobile markets this as restoring the AutoPay discount they stripped away, you’re now locked into their ecosystem even more. If you’re already deep in with T-Mobile, it might be worth it. Otherwise, a regular 2% cash back card gives you more flexibility.
