Toys R Us coming to Jordan Creek this Saturday

In a major U.S. expansion following a tumultuous decade, the toy brand is taking its number of flagship stores from one to eight — four of which are in the Midwest.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Toys R Us is opening a new flagship store in the Jordan Creek Town Center Saturday, Nov. 1 — seven years after one of the toy brand’s stores on Army Post Road shut its doors due to the company’s nationwide bankruptcy liquidation.

Jordan Creek’s new Toys R Us, located next to the mall’s food court, will open its doors to the public at 10 a.m. On opening day, visitors can stop to greet the brand’s iconic mascot, Geoffrey the Giraffe.

The store is just one seven new flagship stores and several holiday shops Toys R Us is rolling out as part of a major U.S. expansion with its partner, Go! Retail Group. An existing store at Chicago Premium Outlets brings the number of Toys R Us flagship stores to eight  — four of which are in the Midwest.

“This next phase of growth brings the magic of Toys R Us to even more communities across the country — just in time for the holidays — and delivers the joyful shopping experience that has made us a trusted destination for generations,” Jamie Uitdenhowen, the executive vice president of Toys R Us at WHP Global, said in a press release.

Toys R Us has had a tumultuous decade. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2017 and closed down all of its U.S. stores. In 2019, it tried opening two stores inside of malls but closed those down after a few months.

In 2021, the company was sold to WHP Global, which has since rolled out numerous initiatives for the toy brand, including reopening stores in the U.S.
