Agartala, 29th October 2025:    A third-grade student at Umakanta English Medium School sustained critical injuries today after a ceiling fan collapsed during class hours, triggering panic among students and alarm among parents.

The incident took place while lessons were in progress, with the fan reportedly detaching from the ceiling and striking the child. The student was rushed to a nearby hospital, accompanied by the school principal, according to initial reports.

Eyewitness accounts suggest the fan had been malfunctioning for days, emitting unusual noises and rotating sluggishly. “I was writing on the board when the fan suddenly fell,” said a teacher present in the classroom. “It had been acting up for quite some time.”

Students echoed concerns over ignored maintenance issues. “We had complained to the headmaster several times about the faulty fans,” said one student. “No action was taken. This accident is the result of that negligence.”

Parents arriving at the school were visibly distressed. One guardian expressed frustration over deteriorating conditions since the school was brought under the Vidyajyoti scheme. “We’ve been paying fees, but the quality of services has collapsed. How can we send our children to school like this?”

Meanwhile, parents are demanding immediate safety audits and repairs. The incident has reignited broader concerns about infrastructure standards in government-aided institutions, particularly those recently integrated into new educational schemes.
