An analysis by Right Fuel Card put the pass, which is at the highest pass in the Lake District, among the most dangerous for winter drivers.
The study considered crash data and light pollution levels, ascertained using the Bortle Scale, which measures night sky brightness.
Matthew Briggs, CEO of Right Fuel Card, said: “Kirkstone Pass is located in the gorgeous Lake District at the highest pass, sweeping through from Ambleside in the Rothay Valley over to Patterdale in Ullswater.
“With the highest point reaching 1,489 feet, visibility is particularly difficult during winter nights.”

The data comes as British summertime ends and the clocks go back, ushering in darker evenings and a reported 11 per cent rise in road collisions.
Mr Briggs also offered expert advice on navigating dark winter roads.
He warned of the dangers of fatigue, saying: “It is particularly easy to get fatigued at night.
“Fatigue slows reaction times, impairs judgment, and reduces focus, increasing the likelihood of accidents.”

He also advised drivers to ensure their headlights are clean and properly aligned, and to use high beams when there is no oncoming traffic to maximise visibility.
Lastly, he emphasised the importance of maintaining a safe speed, stressing: “Drive at a safe and appropriate speed for the road conditions, ensuring that you have enough time to react to obstacles or hazards should they arise.”
