Stagecoach West Scotland named best UK bus operator

The company received the title of Best Operating Company for the second consecutive year at the Christopher Ball Memorial Awards, which celebrate excellence in safe, smooth and fuel-efficient driving.

Fiona Doherty, managing director for Stagecoach West Scotland, said: “I’m delighted that our West Scotland team has won the prestigious ‘Best Operating Company’ award in the UK for the second year running.

“This recognition has been earned by the team, who have consistently gone above and beyond to achieve high performance in terms of safer, smoother and more fuel-efficient driving on every journey they make.”

More than 275 drivers were recognised for their achievements, with Ayrshire-based drivers Stuart Fairbairn and Jim Morrison receiving individual awards from Stagecoach chief operating officer Sam Greer.

Stagecoach West Scotland operates depots in Ayr, Ardrossan, Arran, Cumbernauld and Kilmarnock.

The company uses the GreenRoad system across its fleet to monitor and support safe, efficient driving.

The system provides real-time feedback to drivers through a simple traffic-light display on the dashboard, encouraging smoother acceleration, gentler braking and better anticipation of road conditions.

Alison McCluskie, operations director for Stagecoach West Scotland, said: “Our drivers take huge pride in delivering the best possible experience for customers.

“It’s not just about being ‘green’ – it’s about ensuring our passengers enjoy a comfortable, safe and reliable journey every time they travel with us.”

Stagecoach continues to invest in driver training and technology to support its net zero ambitions by 2050.
