Bolton’s hidden gems to explore
The Thomas Egerton pub offers a warm welcome, with a beer garden.
A spokesperson said: “It has a great village community.
“It’s a pleasure to work in this area, but it’s tough going at the minute with costs.
“I’ve never known it as challenging even with the Covid years, but it’s a vocation and it’s a load of fun.”
The Provisions Coffee shop is another place to stop while enjoying a wander through the village.
Just shortly after is where you’ll find the Meat on the Bone restaurant.
The village church continues to play a leading role in the community.
Christ Church Walmsley roots date back to 1839, and just round the corner there is a woodland walk that takes you to Deakins Mill Way with flats and offices, and the dessert shop Rainys.
In fact, the Parish hall is home to their Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society, featuring plays such as the Hunchback of Notre Dame this November.
The hall itself can be rented out for parties and functions, and a Google Review said: “Could not rave about this place more!”
“The hall itself is beautiful and has many facilities and parking outside.”
But heading up from where all that is, you’ll find the Mason’s Arms Pub, which offers the traditional pub experience and a darts board.
Or, if you’re looking for a dining experience, many stop by the Cibo Italian restaurant and cafe. Offering the greats like traditional lasagne, meatballs linguine, arrabiatta pasta and so much more.
That’s one of two Italians in the village, with the long-running Ciao Baby being at the top.
Also offering a dining experience like Cibo’s, and similar food such as tomato garlic bread and pizza.
Walk some more, and stumble across the vibrant and green Egerton Park, with two sports pitches, a zipline, swings, and a view.
Past the well-known shop Crabtrees and Egerton Hair & Beauty, and you’ll find the Coffee Shop, Bar and restaurant Bakers.
A spokesperson for Bakers said: “The community spirit is at the heart of everything we do. Egerton is such a close-knit, wonderful village, and we’re proud to be part of that.
“We love seeing familiar faces each morning, sharing meals with neighbours, and supporting local events.
“It’s more than just serving food. It’s about connecting with people, celebrating our village, and creating a welcoming space where everyone feels at home.”
Bakers has been going for nearly a decade and is well known for its presentation on the main road.
The third pub, just near the cricket club, is the Cross Guns, which opened just last year. It offers food, and outdoor front area and entertainment- that’s as well as the drinks.
