Hahn makes medal admission after booking place in world final

The Nottingham sprint star, 28, finished third in her T38 200m heat to follow up her fifth-place finish in the 100m final two nights earlier.

The two-time Paralympic champion has endured a hugely turbulent season, changing coaches in a bid to go ‘back to basics’ and admitting to struggling with confidence since her sixth-place finish in Paris last summer.

Hahn is being realistic about her podium chances here in the Indian capital and says it is job done just by booking her place in the final.

“I’m happy – I feel like I executed that well,” she said.

“It’s just that last 30m where I fell away slightly, but the main job is done, I’m into the final and I can’t complain.

“I was quite calm in the warm-up which was surprising – I’m not normally that calm, so I got to run freely really.

“In terms of medals, I don’t think I’m there, but just to make the final, I’m happy with that.

“I said to myself as long as I make the 100m and 200m finals, that’s a win for me.”

Hahn is one of over 30 British athletes here in the Indian capital, with the team now sponsored by official finance partner Novuna.

After a red-hot start but slower finish, she crossed the line in a season’s best 27.04s in her 200m heat as Colombian Karen Palomeque triumphed over Irish athlete Lana Sutton.

Hahn will now turn her attention to the final on Thursday, which gets underway at around 3pm UK-time.

She added: “I’m excited to see what I can do – hopefully a time starting with 26s would be nice.”
