The Ryder Cup gets underway on Friday with the foursomes taking place in the morning before the fourball matches in the afternoon as Team Europe look to retain their crown
The Ryder Cup gets underway today as the 45th edition of the tournament unfolds at Bethpage Black in New York. Team Europe arrive at this weekend’s showdown determined to defend their title following their triumph two years ago in Italy.
Yet no side has managed to claim Ryder Cup glory on away turf since 2012 and the legendary ‘Miracle at Medinah’. During Wednesday’s opening ceremony, Team Europe skipper Luke Donald delivered an inspiring address to galvanise his troops before battle commences.
“[The Ryder Cup] is not about prize money or ranking points,” he declared. “It’s about pride, it’s about representing your flag, your shirt and the legacy you leave behind.
“We are fuelled by something money can’t buy – purpose, brotherhood and a responsibility to honour those who came before us, while inspiring those whose time is yet to come.” The tournament will unfold across Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the first two days featuring four fourball matches and four foursomes contested in the morning and afternoon sessions.

Come Sunday, 12 individual matches will take place with every squad member participating. During Friday and Saturday, captains aren’t obliged to field their entire roster should they choose otherwise.
On Thursday, both teams revealed their partnerships for the foursomes that will launch the Ryder Cup. The Mirror has taken a closer look at who’s competing and when during the opening morning.
Friday foursome tee times
Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton (EUR) V Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas (USA) at 7.10am (EDT) and 12.10pm (BST).
Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick vs Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley at 7.26am (EDT) and 12.26pm (BST).
Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood vs Collin Morikawa and Harris English at 7.42am (EDT) and 12.42pm (BST).
Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland vs Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay at 7.58am (EDT) and 12.58pm (BST).
“We want to start strong,” said Donald. “Rahm and Hatton have had a lot of success together. They know how to win, they get along very well and we’re very happy to get them out first.”
Sky Sports discounted Premier League and EFL package
Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £192 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games next season, an increase of up to 100 more.
