The annual Metropolitan Fashion Week kick-off is so zazzy, so creative, and so free, that it can sometimes be difficult to believe that you can simply roll up to the Original Farmers Market and observe the splendor.
And yet you most definitely can: This sartorial September tradition swans along a pop-up runway near the clocktower, the one near the public market’s Plaza area, and it is all free to watch.
Of course, if you do book a VIP seat this go-around, for $25 (or more, if you’d like) you will help out the Kiwanis Literacy Club, which is “… supporting youth affected by the wildfires in Altadena.”
The Sept. 25 event will have a few different elements, including some “Heroes on the Runway,” which is the theme of the show.
“In a heartwarming fashion segment, firefighters, EMTs, First Responders, and emergency personnel will trade in their uniforms for high fashion,” is the inspirational word from the landmark.
Part of the evening event, which takes place just as the sun is beginning to set, will also spotlight Giovanni Testi and men’s clothing.
The festive focus of this portion of the show? It’s “Whimsical Surrealism,” so count on all sorts of imaginative pieces and eye-popping ensembles.
The Original Farmers Market is always something of a fashion show, and while going casual to the Third & Fairfax destination is just fine, you’ll likely encounter a kaleidoscope of clothes if you sit with a cup of coffee for long enough.
That makes it a great place for a merry Metropolitan Fashion Week event, one that has oodles of stylish cred and a really good heart.
