Kirsty McNeill MP joined Francesca Brennan outside Port Glasgow‘s health centre as the pair united to call for the building of a new health centre in Port Glasgow to replace the current ageing facility.
Ms McNeill, parliamentary under secretary of state at the Scotland Office, was in the area for the Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce’s annual ICON Awards, held at Greenock Town Hall on Friday evening.
Scotland’s health secretary, Neil Gray, visited the Port Glasgow centre in July amid concerns that leaks in the ceiling and structural issues are leaving the building ‘not fit for purpose’.

Ms Brennan said: “We deserve a health centre in Port Glasgow that’s fit for purpose. The people of Inverclyde deserve better and I’ll keep fighting until they get it.”
During his visit Mr Gray did not make a firm commitment to fund a new health centre for the town, citing a squeeze on Scottish Government capital funding from Westminster and rising construction costs, but did say he would use his visit to inform consideration of projects to be prioritised when capital funding is available.
A new capital project funding programme is expected to be announced by the Scottish Government later this year.
