Chandigarh: The 11th UK National Gatka Championship concluded in Cardiff, with players from across the country competing in the traditional Sikh martial art. The event brought together seven prominent gatka akharas, or clubs, for a showcase of skill and sportsmanship.The championship was inaugurated by Harjeet Singh Grewal, president of the World Gatka Federation and the National Gatka Association of India. He was joined by several prominent figures, including Labour MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, who serves as the president of the Gatka Federation UK. Competition resultsThe competition featured individual events known as Farrie-Soti. In the girls’ under 14 category, Roop Kaur from Akali Phoola Singh Gatka Akhara Coventry secured first place, defeating her teammate Manroop Kaur. Rihanna Kaur of Baba Banda Singh Gatka Akhara Gravesend took the third spot. In the boys’ under 17 competition, Navjot Singh of Baba Fateh Singh Gatka Akhara Woolwich won the top prize, with his teammate Jashan Singh as the runner-up. The third-place was shared by Dharam Singh and Tejveer Singh, both from Akali Phoola Singh Gatka Akhara Coventry.In the group of men or played aged over 18, Gurdeep Singh of Jangi Horses Club Wolverhampton finished in first place, defeating Kuldeep Singh of Baba Banda Singh Gatka Akhara Gravesend. Anmoldeep Singh and Nihal Singh, both representing Baba Mitt Singh Gatka Akhara Wolverhampton, claimed third place jointly.
