Goodwill's 'Work the Runway' fashion show returns to OKC

ALL RIGHT JONATHAN THANK YOU. 946 IS THE TIME A FASHION SHOW THIS FRIDAY OVER AT THE CRITERION GOODWILL’S WORK THE RUNWAY EVERYBODY. IT WILL SPOTLIGHT CREATIVITY, COMMUNITY AND SUSTAINABLE STYLE. SO LET’S GO AHEAD AND LEARN SOME MORE ABOUT THIS AND WELCOME IN SAY GOOD MORNING TO MELISSA RICHIE. MELISSA, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE. GOOD MORNING. THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME. LET’S TALK ABOUT THIS WORK THE RUNWAY. THIS IS A REALLY FUN EVENT IN TOWN. WHAT SEPARATES THIS FROM OTHER EVENTS? I MEAN, THIS IS A FASHION SHOW PARTY. ALL OF THE ABOVE. I LOVE IT, IT REALLY IS. AND IT IS UNLIKE ANY FASHION SHOW YOU’VE BEEN TO. IT REALLY BRINGS OUR COMMUNITY TOGETHER TO SHOWCASE OUR GOODWILL EMPLOYEES, AS WELL AS COMMUNITY PARTNERS THAT WE WORK WITH THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. IT SHOWCASES THEIR STORIES, AND THAT’S WHAT’S REALLY IMPORTANT IS FOR PEOPLE TO HEAR THE TRIUMPHS THAT THEY’VE GONE OVER THIS PAST YEAR. SO IT’S A CELEBRATION OF THEM ALSO A CELEBRATION OF FASHION. I LOVE THAT. AND HOW DOES THIS ALL GO BACK TO THE GOODWILL’S MISSION? THE GOAL OF Y’ALL’S ORGANIZATION? SURE. WELL, SO MANY PEOPLE KNOW GOODWILL FOR OUR STORES. THEY REALLY DON’T KNOW THAT OUR MISSION IS TO HELP PEOPLE OVERCOME CHALLENGES TO EMPLOYMENT. SO IT REALLY GOES BACK TO BEING ABLE TO SHOWCASE THESE MODELS, REALLY TALKING ABOUT THE CHALLENGES THAT THEY’VE HAD IN THEIR LIFE AND HOW GOODWILL HAS HELPED THEM SUCCEED. SO EVERY MODEL THAT WALKS THE RUNWAY WILL GET TO TELL THEIR STORY. AND THAT’S WHAT REALLY MAKES THIS IMPACTFUL IN SO DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER FASHION SHOW. ABSOLUTELY. AND WE WERE TALKING WHILE JONATHAN, HE WAS GIVEN THE FORECAST ABOUT SOME OF THOSE GROUPS THAT ARE PART OF THIS EVENT. CAN YOU JUST GIVE A QUICK RUNDOWN OF THERE’S REEMERGE? THERE ARE SOME OTHER GROUPS YOU SHARE THAT. YEAH, ABSOLUTELY. SO WE PARTNER WITH NONPROFITS AROUND THE COMMUNITY BECAUSE WE THINK WE’RE STRONGER WHEN WE WORK TOGETHER. AND TWO OF THOSE ARE REEMERGE AND SALVATION ARMY. A LOT OF PEOPLE DON’T KNOW THAT WE WORK WITH THESE OTHER NON-PROFITS LIKE SALVATION ARMY, AND IT’S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO SHARE THAT WE PARTNER WITH SO MANY OTHER NONPROFITS IN THE COMMUNITY AND HELP THESE CLIENTS SUCCEED. WHY SUSTAINABLE FASHION? THAT’S SUCH A BIG FOCUS HERE. I MEAN, WE ALL KNOW THE IMPORTANCE OF CONTINUING TO USE WHAT YOU HAVE, BUT WHY IS THAT SUCH A BIG FOCUS FOR YOU GUYS? IT REALLY HELPS US KEEP THAT STUFF OUT OF THE LANDFILLS. WE SEE SO MANY DONATIONS COME THROUGH THAT WE’RE NOT ABLE TO PUT ON THE RACKS, BUT WE WANT TO GIVE THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO GO BEYOND THAT. WE WANT TO KEEP THEM OUT OF THE LANDFILL. SO SUSTAINABLE FASHION IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO US AND IT’S REALLY BECOME A HOT TOPIC HERE. RECENTLY, MANY, MANY PEOPLE ARE STARTING TO THRIFT AND WE LOVE THAT. YEAH, SO MANY PEOPLE ARE THRIFTING. I HAVE FRIENDS THAT THRIFT. I’M SEEING IT SO MUCH ON SOCIAL MEDIA TOO. HOW ARE YOU GUYS PUTTING TOGETHER THESE OUTFITS? BECAUSE I SAW SOME PICTURES EARLIER. YOU ALL LOOK SHARP. YOU KNOW, IT’S REALLY FUN BECAUSE THESE MODELS GET TO BE PAIRED WITH A STYLIST HERE IN THE COMMUNITY, AND THEY GO TO GOODWILL, THEY FIND THEIR OUTFIT. WE HAVE A SPECIAL THEME THIS YEAR. IT’S TRAVEL. SO EACH OF OUR MODELS ARE DREAMING OF WHERE THEY WANT TO GO. AND SO THEIR OUTFIT IS BASED OFF OF THEIR TRAVEL DESTINATION. AND THESE ARE SOME INCREDIBLE OUTFITS. SOME OF THESE STYLISTS HAVE UPCYCLED THE OUTFITS. SO THEY’VE CREATED THEIR OWN NEW OUTFIT BASED OFF OF ITEMS THAT THEY FOUND AT GOODWILL. IT’S REALLY A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THEM. IT SOUNDS LIKE A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY, AND I ALSO NEED THEIR NUMBERS FOR THESE STYLISTS SO I CAN HIT THEM UP ONCE THEY’RE DONE WITH THE FASHION SHOW. SO AUGUST 8TH AT THE CRITERIA, THAT’S THIS FRIDAY. WHAT CAN PEOPLE DO IF THEY CAN’T MAKE IT OUT? THEY WANT TO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THIS CAUSE. ABSOLUTELY. WE HAVE A SILENT AUCTION THAT’S ACTUALLY LIVE RIGHT NOW WITH FIVE VERY UNIQUE ITEMS THAT THEY CAN GO AND BID ON. THAT MONEY STAYS RIGHT HERE IN CENTRAL OKLAHOMA TO HELP WITH OUR PROGRAMS AND SERVICES, TO BE FREE TO OKLAHOMANS, OR THEY CAN GO TO GOODWILL AND MAKE A DONATION. ALL RIGHT, MELISSA, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE, GIVING US ALL THIS INFORMATION. WORK THE RUNWAY. I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE ALL THOSE MODELS OUT THERE. AND THIS IS SUCH A GREAT EVENT. WHAT YOU ALL ARE DOING. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT. WE’RE GOING TO PUT SOME MORE INFORMATION UP ON KOCO.COM OR AS SEEN ON SECTION HEAD OVER THERE, WORK T
