A local performer will make history this weekend as the first amputee to walk the runway at Reno’s largest fashion event.
This Saturday, the Reno Fashion Show will feature Katrina Dumond, a right-leg amputee and wheelchair user, as part of its 19-year milestone event.
Dumond, who is also a stand-up comedian, will walk for designer PHOUXFX at the show held in the Atlantis Grand Ballroom.
“In most of the modeling world, there aren’t a lot of opportunities for people like me,” Dumond said. “This show makes space for people who are often overlooked. It’s not just fashion, it’s inclusion in action.”
Her appearance marks the first time an amputee model has been included in the annual runway event, which is Nevada’s largest.
The show is part of Reno’s citywide celebration of 30 Years of Artown and aims to highlight a broad spectrum of identities and creative themes, including cultural heritage, sustainability, ability, and gender expression.
This year’s production features more than 200 models, 10 designers, and a 125-foot runway.
Doors open at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, with the show beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at www.renofashionshow.com or the door.
