Hong Kong’s forecaster has issued an amber rainstorm warning signal and warned of widespread showers as Tropical Cyclone Wipha approaches.
The Hong Kong Observatory raised the signal at 11.15am on Friday and warned of the heavy downpours in two special notices.
“The area of intense thundery showers over Shenzhen is moving southwards gradually,” it said.
“Widespread heavy rain may affect Hong Kong shortly. Members of the public should be on the alert.”
The Observatory said it would issue the No 1 typhoon warning signal on Friday evening or early Saturday, as Wipha is expected to enter within 800km (497 miles) of the city.
