Adding to the drama, fashion queen Anna Wintour announced her decision to step down as the editor-in-chief of US Vogue — just one day before the wedding. She will continue her global role, but stepping down after 37 years at the helm raised eyebrows.
Now, online users are connecting the dots. Comments like “That’s why Anna left then” and “I’m canceling my subscription” are flooding social media. Some joked that the September issue might now feature Amazon fashion. Others pointed out how the photoshopped wedding photos of Lauren on Vogue’s cover suddenly made more sense.
According to a source quoted by the Daily Mail, Anna Wintour herself may be helping with the deal. The source said, “Everyone in the fashion industry is talking about it. Lauren Sanchez is an unlikely Vogue cover star. The rumor is she got it because the Newhouse family wants to please Bezos.”
The same source added that Conde Nast is downsizing, a common move before a major sale. “Anna is said to be brokering the deal,” the source added. “She has equity in the business and stands to gain a lot.”
