State Sen. Mike Porfirio and state Rep. Abdelnasser Rashid brought flair and fun to local seniors Friday with their first annual Senior Fashion Luncheon.
The event drew 145 guests to Valladolid Banquet Hall in Summit, where 25 seniors modeled their own fashion in front of an enthusiastic crowd. The luncheon ran from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and featured Mediterranean-style food and music from DJ Maxx Multi Media.
“We decided to try something different than the usual bingo that we hold, and everyone loved it,” said Martha Sonka, constituent services staffer in Porfirio’s office.
Sonka and Rashid’s chief of staff, Nedaa Alwawi, hosted the event. Vendors were also on hand, offering information on insurance, senior services, and more.
“The food was delicious, and the event was a big success,” Sonka said. “We would like to thank everyone who contributed to making this event a success. We’ll be doing it again next year.”
Models volunteered to take the runway, showing off outfits described by Sonka as the crowd cheered them on.
